Vertigo May Be More Than an Inner Ear Problem — Your Neck and Nervous System May Be Involved
Vertigo can be unsettling. It may feel like the room is spinning, your balance is off, your head feels heavy, or your body cannot fully trust where it is in space. For many people, vertigo is not just a “dizzy spell.” It affects confidence, movement, driving, work, sleep, and everyday life.
The body’s balance system depends on clear communication between the brain, inner ear, eyes, muscles, joints, and spine. Your neck plays a major role in this system because the upper cervical spine contains important nerves, joints, muscles, and motion sensors that help your brain understand head position, posture, and body movement.
When the neck is stiff, irritated, misaligned, or not moving properly, the information being sent from the spine to the brain may become less clear. This can contribute to dizziness, poor balance, tension, headaches, neck pain, and a feeling of being “off.” In some cases, the problem may not be only in the inner ear — the spine and nervous system may also be involved.
At Watts Wellness Chiropractic, we evaluate vertigo and dizziness from a whole-body perspective. We look at posture, spinal motion, neck tension, balance, nervous system function, and how your symptoms respond to certain head and neck positions. Our goal is to determine whether your dizziness may be connected to spinal dysfunction, poor neck mechanics, or altered communication between the neck and nervous system.
Chiropractic care is designed to restore proper motion and alignment to the spine and the joints connected to it. When the spine moves better, the nervous system has a better opportunity to communicate clearly. For patients whose dizziness is related to neck tension, posture distortion, restricted motion, or cervicogenic dizziness, chiropractic care may help improve spinal function, reduce irritation, restore mobility, and support better balance.
Not every case of vertigo is the same. Some forms of vertigo come from the inner ear, medication side effects, blood pressure changes, migraines, infections, or other medical conditions. That is why a proper evaluation is important. If your symptoms suggest something outside the scope of chiropractic care, we will guide you toward the appropriate medical provider.
If you are dealing with dizziness, balance problems, neck pain, headaches, or recurring vertigo, your spine and nervous system deserve to be evaluated. Chiropractic care may be an important part of helping your body move, communicate, adapt, and function better.
Schedule a vertigo and spinal health evaluation today to find out whether your dizziness may be connected to your neck, posture, or nervous system function.
